Air-Q Wi-Fi Corporation (OTCBB: AQWF) has opened the first phases of its Wi-Fi Internet access network in Baton Rouge, LA, where it currently operates nearly 20 Wi-Fi hotspots. Air-Q also operates a Wi-Fi network in Phoenix, AZ. Air-Q has established an aggressive business plan that focuses on the marketing of its Wi-Fi services to businesses and residential customers, as well as to visitors to its current and planned future markets with Wi-Fi com-patible laptop computers and other wireless devices.

In addition to marketing, Air-Q's business plan has a dual focus on acquisitions. Key strategic acquisi-tions will be made to accelerate the growth of the Q-Spot "footprint." Air-Q creates and maintains Q-Spots, Wi-Fi Hot Spots, to provide wireless high-speed Internet access. From anywhere within range of a Q-Spot, individuals can connect to the Internet wirelessly using their Wi-Fi enabled equipment.

Notebooks with embedded Wi-Fi were also a driver on the client side within the home, as Dell, HP, Toshiba, Fujitsu and Acer pushed out notebooks with embedded 802.11b and 802.11g at retail, through catalogs, and on-line.

The wireless LAN (WLAN) industry will generate $1.67 billion in total revenue through the end of 2003, according to Allied Business Intelligence, Oyster Bay, NY.

Chipsets for WLANs are set to hit 23 to 25 million units this year, up from 7.9 million in 2001. ABI's forecasts indicate that between 2002 and 2007, Wi-Fi chipset shipments are set to grow at a CAGR of 43%. By 2007, shipments will reach 147.5 million chipsets, with revenues of $1.13 billion.
